Hello dear Travelers!
Let's talk about Uluwatu Temple, one of the must-see locations in Bali. This temple is built on a high cliff (about 70 meters above the ocean) and because of the temples location, you may witness a panoramic view of the Indian Ocean. Uluwatu Temple is dedicated to Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, the supreme god in Balinese Hinduism. The temple is one of the six key temples believed to be Bali's spiritual pillars. We advise you to see this combination of culture and nature, for a memorable experience.
Note: Balinese temples are usually a home to mischievious monkeys. While enjoying the view dont forget to be cautious around the monkeys and keep an eye on your belongings.
Kecak Dance Performances
Visitors to Uluwatu Temple can enjoy traditional Kecak dance performances held in the temple's amphitheater during sunset, usually at 6 PM. The Kecak dance, also known as the "monkey chant," is a traditional Balinese dance-drama that originated in the 1930s. The dance typically depicts scenes from the Hindu epic Ramayana, focusing on the story of Prince Rama and his rescue mission to save Princess Sita from the demon king Ravana.
One distinctive feature of the Kecak dance is the use of a large group of male performers who form the chorus. Instead of using traditional musical instruments, the performers chant the syllable "cak" repeatedly.
Performers typically wear traditional Balinese costumes. So, this is a great opportunity to experience Balinese culture.
In some variations of the Kecak dance, there is a segment known as the "fire dance," where performers walk on burning coconut husks without getting burned. We deffinitelly recommend to watch the performances while you are there.
Note: As with many temples in Bali, visitors to Uluwatu are required to wear a sarong and a sash, which are usually provided at the entrance.
Uluwatu Temple is a popular touristic attraction, because of that fame temple is well-equipted. There are parking areas, souvenir shops, and local eateries
