Dragon Fruit: The Mysterious World of Exotic Flavor

Dragon fruit is low in calories but rich in nutrients such as fiber, vitamin C, calcium and antioxidants. It also has a high water content. I think it tastes like sweet kiwi. Some types may have a more intense flavor profile, but in general they are not characterized by a very pronounced flavor. Dragon fruit grows in warm, tropical climates and needs good soil and plenty of sunlight. It is widely grown in countries such as Vietnam and of course Thailand. As a tropical fruit, I think it is one of the best fruits you can try in Bali.

In Bali, they use fresh dragon fruit, especially in smoothie and bowl recipes. The slightly sweet and juicy structure of the fruit adds a soft and fresh flavor to these recipes. They also use dragon fruit in smoothies, combining it with other tropical fruits to create refreshing and nutritious drinks, and this is definitely my favorite. Likewise, in bowl recipes, dragon fruit is combined with granola, fresh fruits and other decorations to create healthy snacks that are both visual and delicious.

Snakeskin or Delicious Fruit? Meet Snake Fruit!

You can see why it is called snake skin, but also called Salak or snake fruit. It tastes like a cross between pineapple and apple, maybe with a bit of kiwi sourness. Snakeskin fruit is rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, vitamin C and potassium, and is also rich in fiber, which can help digestion and your gut health.

However, it may be necessary to be careful when consuming fresh Salak fruit, as the scales of its outer shell can be sharp and cause sensitivity or allergic reactions in some people.

Asia's forbidden fruit: Durian

Durian... An exotic, delicious and yet controversial fruit of Southeast Asia. This fruit, which has a natural habitat in places such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, represents much more than an ordinary fruit.

When I went to Malaysia for the first time, I smelled the impressive smell of durian for the first time and it was really as intense and characteristic as it was said to be. Durian appeared as one of the rare fruits that are prohibited from being consumed on the streets or in public transportation. In countries like Malaysia and Singapore, it is forbidden to even consume or carry durians in public! This was really interesting and even weirder when I experienced it myself.

However, these prohibitions do not prevent us from enjoying durian. For durian lovers, the sale and consumption of the fruit usually takes place in night markets and open sales areas. This brings together those who seek the taste of durian and actually creates a community around this fruit :)

Passion Fruit: A Sweet Passion, a Healthy Option

Passion Fruit is actually native to South America, but it can also grow in many parts of the world. For example, Asia, Africa and Australia. It is also known as the "passion flower" due to the complex and interesting structure of its flower. For this reason, the fruit is called "passion fruit". I think it's both sweet and sour... You can slice passion fruit and eat it with a spoon. You can add it to smoothies, fruit salads and desserts.

Passion fruit is low in calories and rich in nutrients. It is a good source of fiber and vitamins A and C. It is also a good source of minerals such as potassium, iron and magnesium. Moreover, some say that it can reduce stress due to the antioxidants it contains.

Tropical Thorny Treasure: Rambutan

This fruit, which you may have never heard of before (I didn't), is one of the mysterious flavors of tropical geography and takes its name from the word "rambut", which means "hairy" in Malay. Its reddish or yellowish shell is covered with spiny soft hairs and looks exactly like a sea urchin. However, under this spiky shell, a jelly-like, juicy and sweet filling awaits you.

Rambutan is a tropical fruit native to Southeast Asia. It's a really good source of vitamin C, providing about half the recommended daily intake in just one. Due to its high vitamin C content, it can help strengthen the immune system and have healthier skin. Rambutan also contains fiber, which supports digestive health and may help regulate blood sugar levels. It also helps reduce stress. I think it really looks like grapes on the inside.

The Queen's Fruit: The Mysterious World of Mangosteen

Mangosteen... This name sounds so exotic and mysterious, doesn't it? Mangosteen, also known as the fruit of the queen, maintains its throne among tropical fruits with the flavor it hides under its purple skin.

I met mangosteen for the first time in Bali. She was shining like a purple pearl among colorful fruits at a local market. I gave in to my curiosity and bought it. When I peeled it and opened it, I saw a garlic waiting for me :) It was a mixture of sweet, sour and refreshing aroma. It has white and delicious meat.

This exotic fruit is rich in antioxidants and protects the body against free radicals. Additionally, the fiber it contains supports the digestive system, while vitamin C and other nutrients strengthen the immune system. So, consuming Mangosteen is both a delicious and healthy option.
