Traditional Flavors of Bali: Nasi Goreng and Mi Goreng

Today I would like to tell you about Bali's traditional flavors, Nasi Goreng and Mi Goreng. The local cuisine of the island is enriched with unique spices and fresh ingredients. Rice, which forms the basis of Balinese life, has led to the emergence of different flavors in the island cuisine. Popular dishes such as Nasi Goreng and Mi Goreng have become cornerstones of traditional Balinese cuisine, reflecting the magical world of this golden grain. If you want to taste the original versions of these dishes, you should go to warungs.

What is Warung?

"Warung" is a term used in Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia. Warungs are generally known as places where local delicacies, food and drinks are sold.

I prefer mie goreng every time I go to Warung :)

Mie Goreng in Bali

What is Mie Goreng?

Mie goreng; It is fried noodles prepared with various ingredients. It is enriched with vegetables, meat (such as chicken, beef, shrimp), eggs and spices.

The preparation recipe is usually made in a wok or pan. Noodles are fried first, then vegetables and meat are added. Eggs are often added to the mixture and all the ingredients are fried together. (Note: In the restaurants I go to, they usually put eggs on the noodles. Since I don't like eggs very much, I always ordered them without eggs.) Mie goreng is made in sweet, salty and spicy ways. Various spices such as soy sauce, pepper paste, garlic and ginger are used. Spring onion, onion or lemon slices, two skewers of chicken with satay sauce and fish crackers are served as side dishes.

What is Nasi Goreng?

Let's come to another taste; Nasi Goreng. The name "nasi" in Malay means "rice", while the word "goreng" means fried or fried. To summarize, I can say that it is the version of mie goreng made with rice. Alternatively, it can also be flavored with sauces and spices such as honey, tamarind (pine fish sauce with coconut vinegar). In some versions, chili paste or chopped hot pepper is also added. The version I eat in Bali usually includes boiled white rice and chicken with satay sauce, etc. It is located.

Different Balinese dishes

Both dishes are widely available in Indonesia, from street vendors to restaurants, and are a preferred delicacy for both breakfast and main courses. It is also popular in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries. While you're here, I recommend you not to leave without trying Nasi Goreng or Mie Goreng :)
